Past Eclipses (2026+)

โ˜€๏ธ Surya Grahan (Solar Eclipse)

Occurs at new moon when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun. Can be total (sun fully covered), annular (ring of fire, moon too far), partial, or hybrid. India sees different phases depending on the eclipse path.

๐ŸŒ• Chandra Grahan (Lunar Eclipse)

Occurs at full moon when Earth passes between Sun and Moon, casting its shadow on the Moon. Total lunar eclipses show a blood-red moon. Lunar eclipses are visible from the entire night-side of Earth simultaneously.

๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ Grahan in Hindu Tradition

During a Grahan, temples typically close. A purifying bath (snan) is taken after the eclipse ends. Food cooked before the eclipse is often discarded. Pregnant women are advised special precautions. Giving donations (daan) is considered especially meritorious.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Safety & Viewing

Never look directly at a solar eclipse without certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2). Lunar eclipses are safe to view directly. In India, the diamond ring effect is visible during total solar eclipses from the central path.
