About Magha
Magha is the winter pilgrimage month, marked by sacred bathing at river confluences and the grand Kumbha Mela (held once every 12 years). Magha Pournami is one of the holiest bathing days, with millions flairing to sacred rivers. Basant Panchami marks spring's arrival and Saraswati Puja (worship of knowledge goddess). The month (Aquarius) represents innovation, spiritual awakening, and intellectual liberty. Many undertake spiritual retreats and intensive yoga practices during Magha. Basant Panchami is ideal for starting education, launching creative projects, and artistic endeavors. Diaspora Hindus participate in Magha Pournami bathing rituals by visiting local rivers (symbolically, not necessarily sacred rivers) and conducting home rituals. Many travel to India specifically for Magha Pournami to bathe at Varanasi, Prayag (Allahabad), or Haridwar to fulfill a lifetime pilgrimage goal.
