Sikh Nitnem consists of prescribed prayers recited at specific times of day. Amrit Vela (before dawn) is the most sacred time for Simran. Rehras Sahib is recited at sunset, and Kirtan Sohila at bedtime (around 9pm).
Amrit Vela (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ) literally means 'ambrosial hours'. It spans from approximately 3 hours before sunrise to 30 minutes before sunrise. Sikhs are encouraged to wake during this time for Simran (meditation on God's name).
Rehras Sahib is an evening prayer recited around sunset — the 30 minutes centred on the exact moment of sunset at your location.
Kirtan Sohila is traditionally recited before sleep. We show it fixed at 21:00–21:30 as a standard time, though adherents may recite it whenever they sleep.
