Frequently Asked Questions

What is Varjyam?

Varjyam (వర్జ్యం) is a 96-minute inauspicious period unique to Telugu Panchangam. It is calculated based on the day of the year and nakshatra cycle: start = (sunset − 90 + (dayOfYear % 27 × 22)) mod 1440.

When does Durmuhurtham occur?

Durmuhurtham appears once or twice a day for 30 minutes each. The exact times depend on the day of the week and are fixed offsets from sunrise/solar noon.

Is Telugu Panchangam different from Tamil?

Yes. While both share Rahu Kalam, Gulika and Yamagandam, Telugu Panchangam uniquely includes Varjyam and Durmuhurtham instead of Nalla Neram and Amirt Neram.

The Telugu Panchangam is the traditional almanac of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It features unique inauspicious periods: Varjyam (a 96-minute avoidance window based on nakshatra position) and Durmuhurtham (two 30-minute bad muhurtas per day), in addition to the universal Rahu Kalam, Gulika and Yamagandam.
